Luxury Shopping in the East

The New Year welcomes another addition to the list of luxury shopping in the Metro with the opening of Eastwood Mall, the latest venture of real state heavyweight Megaworld Corp., dubbed as the “conclusion to the whole Eastwood City’s success story.”

Increasing the number of retail stores and dining areas in Eastwood City to 350 in total, Eastwood Mall houses almost 200 upscale shops and fine dining restaurants, meant for shoppers and diners with discerning tastes.

A destination on its own

Eastwood City is teeming with commercial, financial and residential buildings, all part of the Grand Eastwood City plan to be a destination on its own. It is home to some of the biggest BPO companies in Metro Manila, high-end condominiums and a favorite place for hang out and concerts among urban yuppies.

“This is really part of the plan to have a full-scale mall in Eastwood City,” said Kevin Tan, commercial division head of Megaworld Corp., referring to Eastwood Mall. “We always knew that what we offered in City Walk 1 and 2 was just only a start of it all. It is our final phase of development in terms of retail.”

Veering away from conventional architectural landscape, Eastwood Mall follows a design that gives shoppers a vast space for leisure and relaxation. The four-story building, strategically built at the center of Eastwood City, is connected to Citywalk 1 and 2, its al fresco dining counterpart, through a bridge over a small man-made lagoon. The interior is modern yet classy, elegantly designed, boosting of thick glass walls and wide retail shops, an air of luxury in every floor.

Overlooking from the second floor where the restaurants are located is the garden and the lagoon, which creates a relaxing, natural ambience in the high-rise environment of Eastwood City. The hallways are equally spacious, with the absence of kiosks in the mall, there are benches and lounge areas for those on a shopping break, as well as open-air verandas where one can smoke or simply breathe fresh air.

Few steps away from the mall is the wellness center, a one-stop shop for fitness enthusiasts and health buffs around the area as well as for the regular mall goers.

“We’ve put together a spa, yoga, dance studio, salon. It’s really all for pampering and relaxation. We wanted to put it all in one area for convenience. So it becomes more of a destination. This is really meant to complete the shopping and dining and the leisure experience,” adds Tan.

Luxury shopping, fine dining

One of Eastwood Mall prime offerings is its roster of first-class brands, both local and international, some of which are exclusive in this mall.

“There will be a lot of luxury brands that you won’t find anywhere else, such as Steve Madden and Franco Sarto. The Bench group is also bringing in a new brand that will open in the Eastwood Mall for the first time. In addition to this, the mall will host the largest Apple store in the country,” he adds.

Most of the chic stores are located at the first floor, among them are Armani Exchange, Dunhill, Nine West and Lacoste while the second floor houses some of the local brands like Folded & Hung, Bayo and Celine. The third floor called Mommy and Me is dedicated to the needs of babies and kids with a toy store, DIY shop and kitchen and home shop. In the fourth floor are electronic and gadget shops Samsung, Sony and Automatic Center, and perhaps one of the biggest Timezone in a mall. A differently designed McDonald’s is also located in the fourth floor with Starbucks and Fully Booked.

There is a specific area allotted to fine dining area which is adjacent to the mall, with its own entrance, connected but not exclusive to the main mall. This is to accommodate late-night diners who might want to extend their meals until early mornings. They are targeting the more “mature and chic clientele” so a number of posh restaurants will be opening in the said floor.

“The mall will feature some serious cuisine and fine dining venues, such as Crisostomo, with chef Florabelle Co and Momo, by the group that has brought us the M CafĂ©,” Tan continues.

Despite the perennial problem of Eastwood City which is the constant changing of the U-turn lanes in this area, Tan doesn’t consider it to be a disadvantage for Eastwood Mall. In fact, he revealed that they are already finding solutions for this problem by coordinating with the proper authorities.

“We are working on it with the MMDA [Metro Manila Development Authority]. And they are quite supportive of our request. I’m glad to report that they are going to open more U-turn slots very soon. It was supposed to open before the mall opening, but there are just some issues we need to iron out first.”

Tan also promises a grand opening of Eastwood Mall coming this January. “We are preparing something big, a very big production for the general public.”
